Forensic Imaging Associates LLC was founded to expand access to thoughtful, expert interpretation of postmortem medical imaging.
Modern imaging can provide valuable information after death, giving coroners, medical examiners, hospitals, families, and attorneys rapidly available information as an alternative to traditional autopsy.
FIA’s approach combines medical imaging expertise, careful case review, and collaboration with the professionals already involved in a death investigation. When a case requires additional medical imaging expertise, FIA can draw on a network of medical imaging subspecialists to provide an even more complete and case-specific assessment.
Our Mission & Vision
Our mission is to provide accurate, respectful, timely, and accessible forensic imaging services that help clients make informed decisions after death.
We pursue that mission by:
- Applying specialized medical knowledge to postmortem image interpretation
- Communicating complex findings clearly and responsibly
- Collaborating with coroners, medical examiners, hospitals, families, and attorneys
- Recognizing both the strengths and limitations of forensic imaging
- Seeking additional subspecialty expertise when needed
- Supporting the existing death-investigation process
We envision a future in which the tremendous advantages of forensic imaging are more widely understood and appropriately integrated into death investigations.
FIAs expert postmortem interpretation provides coroners and medical examiners with greater access to specialized imaging support. Hospitals can offer families rapidly available and noninvasive options for assessment after unexpected deaths. Families can make informed choices based on their personal, cultural, and religious preferences. Attorneys and other professionals can obtain independent, medically grounded reviews of imaging evidence.
Forensic imaging will not eliminate the need for traditional autopsy, pathology, or toxicology investigations in all cases. It can, however, expand the tools available to those seeking answers.
Our Founders

Matthew J. Fleishman, MD, MMM, FACR
Co-Founder and Chief Executive Officer
Dr. Matthew Fleishman is a board-certified radiologist with nearly three decades of experience in diagnostic and interventional body radiology. Since joining Radiology Imaging Associates in 1997, his clinical work has focused on thoracic and body imaging, emergency radiology, body interventions, and forensic imaging. He has particular expertise in advanced CT evaluation of lung cancer, trauma, and acute medical and surgical conditions.
Dr. Fleishman brings extensive experience in applying advanced imaging to complex medical questions. In 2026, he earned certification in forensic imaging and Virtopsy from the University of Zurich, further strengthening his ability to evaluate postmortem CT studies and distinguish significant findings from the expected changes that occur after death.
He earned his bachelor’s degree in biology from Columbia University and graduated with honors from Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons. He completed an internship in internal medicine and a fellowship in nuclear medicine at Columbia-Presbyterian Medical Center, followed by a diagnostic radiology residency and thoracic imaging fellowship at the Mallinckrodt Institute of Radiology at Washington University. He is board-certified in diagnostic radiology and nuclear medicine and holds a Master of Medical Management from Carnegie Mellon University.
Throughout his career, Dr. Fleishman has held numerous healthcare leadership positions. He served as Medical Director of the Department of Radiology at Swedish Medical Center for 25 years and held numerous medical staff leadership roles, including President of the Medical Staff. He has served as a trustee of the HealthOne Hospital System since 2013 and as chair of its Clinical Patient Safety and Quality Committee since 2021. He also served for 13 years on the board of directors of COPIC, including three years as lead director. His professional contributions include peer-reviewed medical publications, presentations, book chapters, and initiatives involving digital imaging, clinical communication, quality improvement, and patient safety.
As founder and chief executive officer of Forensic Imaging Associates, Dr. Fleishman applies advanced, non-invasive imaging technology to help medical examiners, coroners, treating physicians, families, and other clients better understand the circumstances surrounding a death. He is a Fellow of the American College of Radiology.

Andrew J. Fisher, MD, MBA, FACR
Co-Founder and President
Dr. Andrew “Andy” Fisher is a radiologist with 27 years of experience at Radiology Imaging Associates and extensive expertise in emergency, trauma, and body imaging. During his career, he has interpreted more than 200,000 body CT studies involving trauma, hemorrhage, fractures, foreign bodies, and acute medical and surgical conditions.
For the past 10 years, Dr. Fisher’s clinical work has included postmortem CT imaging. His background in emergency and trauma radiology is particularly relevant to forensic imaging, where accurate interpretation often depends on recognizing injury patterns and distinguishing significant findings from the changes that naturally occur after death. As Director of Emergency Radiology at Barnes-Jewish Hospital, the 1,300-bed tertiary referral and teaching hospital of Washington University, he was responsible for interpreting emergency and trauma studies across a high-volume imaging service and training the medical students and residents who worked alongside him.
Dr. Fisher earned a bachelor’s degree in economics from Yale University and his medical degree from Duke University School of Medicine. He completed his diagnostic radiology training at the Mallinckrodt Institute of Radiology at Washington University, followed by an abdominal imaging fellowship at Duke University with additional training in abdominal cross-sectional imaging. He also holds an Executive MBA from the Olin School of Business at Washington University.
His academic career includes service as an Assistant Professor at the Mallinckrodt Institute of Radiology. He has co-authored three radiology textbooks and published nearly 20 peer-reviewed articles in the radiology literature. He is also a Fellow of the American College of Radiology.
As co-founder of Forensic Imaging Associates, Dr. Fisher brings extensive CT interpretation, trauma imaging, teaching, and postmortem imaging experience to the review of complex cases. His work helps medical examiners, coroners, treating physicians, families, attorneys, and other clients understand the meaning of postmortem imaging findings—as well as understanding what conclusions cannot be reached through imaging alone.
Expertise, Collaboration, and Respect
Forensic Imaging Associates was built on a simple principle: providing access to specialized imaging expertise that gives professionals and families rapidly available, noninvasive, and more informed options after death.
